Angry's Simpson Safari
(August 2007) |
|
Australian rock music legend Angry Anderson will treat the early racegoers to a live
and unplugged special outback concert in Birdsville on Saturday 25th
August.
In town as part of Angry's Simpson Safari, Angry Anderson,
Wesley Carr and lead singer of The Falls, Simon Rudston Brown will rock
the Birdsville Hall for one night only.
All are welcome and the admission price is just $15 of which all of it
will go towards the building of the Dunn & Lewis Memorial Youth Centre.
The Safari is taking a large convoy of
4WD vehicles into the Simpson Desert to raise money for the Dunn & Lewis
Memorial Youth Centre which is being built on the NSW south coast at
Ulladulla. The Centre is the initiative of Gayle Dunn who lost her
teenage son in the Bali bombings.
Angry is Ambassador of this youth entertainment centre which is being
built to support disadvantaged youth from right across the country. As a
result 4WD owners from as far afield as WA & Qld will join Angry in the
west Victorian town of Horsham from where they will set out on this epic
16 day journey of discovery that will take in such rustic exotic
locations as Broken Hill, Cameron’s Corner (where 3 states meet),
Innamincka, the Moomba Gas Field, Sturt’s Stony Desert and Birdsville
where Angry and friends will perform unplugged under the stars.
The wild man of rock – at one with nature. Now that’s something we’ve
gotta see. From there the safari will head out into the great Simpson
Desert. This is literally light years from where Angry has just come
from, a one month tour of Germany, with Rose Tattoo, playing head
banging heavy rock to the Herr’s and Frau’s in the Black Forest.
The convoy’s only contact with the outside world will be a satellite
phone and whilst there are expert tour guides along there is danger
should the weather turn feral.
Participants have paid $2800 per vehicle to make this once in a lifetime
trip and Angry is hoping to raise more money on the journey through
donations and through proceeds from the Birdsville ‘bash’.
Supermarket chain IGA has come on board in support as has Toyota which
is supplying Angry his Landcruiser wheels with all the necessary
additions, bells & whistles.
For more information about the Safari and an opportunity to speak with
Angry both prior, or on the road, contact tour organiser Marty Rhone

tour itinerary is available on request.

Birdsville Takes on the Corporations (June 2006) |
As something new this
year Birdsville will be introducing corporate tents to the races. Each
tent will fit 40 race goers with a prime viewing position, plus one of
the most valuable commodities of the races- shade! The tents will also
have a bar and be fully catered with some great gourmet bush cuisine
being prepared on the bbq by Loretta Walters our chef who’s being flown
in especially for the event from the Radisson Hotel on the Gold Coast.
However for those of us who can’t get a possie in the tents, don’t
worry, as they’re getting set up to the South of the big shed, so they
won’t block your view of the race track- or the bar!
So if you’re looking for a work gathering with a difference this year,

Winning Letter (Friends of the BRC 2005) |
Friends of the B.R.C.
The Birdsville Races is my favourite holiday destination because of the
chance to renew friendships made over the last eleven visits. I organize
a coach and the look on the faces of the first timers who live the dream
of attending the Birdsville Races which everyone tells you they are
going to do one day. Only a special type of person makes the effort to
attend and the number of people who come with me on more than one
occasion is amazing. Living on the Sunshine coast, the extreme isolation
of Birdsville is another attraction to me and the contrasts in landscape
and weather never ceases to amaze and of course the obligatory dust
storm which we didn’t have last year. To see the changes at the
racecourse and the trees at the caravan park growing also is amazing.
To my mind this event is a truly AUSSIE experience and is unsurpassed
anywhere else and long may it exist and prosper.
To witness the amount of characters that congregate in one place in a
friendly atmosphere is unique and I feel privileged to be a part of it.
It is my long term hope to one day bring my grandson now six to attend
the races.
Yours sincerely
Brian (Barney) Campbell
